About the Artists

Madhvi Subrahmanian (b. Mumbai, India) was trained under Ray Meeker at the Golden Bridge Pottery in Pondicherry, India. She attained her Masters degree in Fine Arts from the Meadows School of the Arts, SMU, Dallas, Texas where she studied with Peter Beasecker. In 2002, she went to England under a British Council scholarship and worked briefly with Kate Malone. Madhvi has also had the opportunity to study with Warren Mckenzie, Val Cushing, William Daley and others. Madhvi has also participated in several artist-in-residence programs such as FLICAM -FuLe International Ceramic Art Museums (Fuping,China) and her works have been published in various international magazines like Ceramics Monthly and in books like Contemporary Ceramics by Emmanuel Cooper. Madhvi has had several solo shows in India, Singapore and USA and has participated in group exhibitions in India, USA, Taiwan, Korea, Spain etc. Her works are found in several private and public collections in India, Japan, China and Singapore.

Dr Wee Hong Ling is a scientist-turned-artist who was working as a NASA research fellow when she discovered her passion for ceramics during her pursuit of a Ph.D. in Geography. Since completing her doctoral degree in 2005, she has been a ceramicist who has been exhibiting her work internationally. Hong Ling has participated in exhibitions in the US, UK, Australia, Japan, Korea, China and Singapore. Among her accolades are the First Prize at Ceramics Biennial 2006 at The New Hampshire Institute of Art (New Hampshire, USA) and the President’s Designer of the Year Award finalist last year. Hong Ling’s works are in the permanent public collections of Japan, China and Singapore.

Michelle Lim is a young career ceramicist. Versatile and cross-disciplinary, she has been an industrial designer and educator of youth at risk — for which she has received awards. Since completing her Bachelor of Design Arts with First Class Honours at the Australian National University’s School of Art in 2011, she develops curricula, teaches design and art while undertaking projects in craft and ceramics. Michelle has had two solo-exhibitions and eight group-exhibitions. In 2013, Michelle co-produced Singapore’s inaugural ceramics festival – Awaken the Dragon Festival – with Post-Museum. It was a community art project that involved 3000 over participants. Michelle’s work has been described as thoughtful, personal and accessible. It has been said that “… one of her greatest assets come from her wide interest in disciplines beyond the scope of design, which includes other art forms such as literature, theatre, photography and music. … this diverse outlook has endowed her with a certain sensibility and empathy for life and for living…”. She counts William Morris, the Art and Craft Movement, Charles and Ray Eames among her creative influences. It is her aspiration to work with like-minded partners pursuing meaningful projects.

The project More than [show] business – Post-PopUp at CCA is a collaborative effort between Post-Museum and CCA, led by curators Anca Rujoiu and Vera Mey, with the additional support of the National Arts Council (NAC).
