Chang Yoong Chia will be talking about his 3 main categories of works and why he makes them: paintings, handicraft-based works, and works that tell a story in a sequential format.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Chang Yoong Chia (b.1975, Malaysia) graduated from the Malaysian Institute of Art in 1996 and have since been actively exhibition in Malaysia and overseas. Notable exhibitions include the “3rd Fukuoka Asian Art Triennale” in 2005, Japan, “Domestic Bliss”, Sculpture Square, Singapore in 2007 and “Second Seven Years”, the Annexe
Gallery, Kuala Lumpur in 2009. His work was recently collected by Singapore Art Museum.

Trained as a painter, Chang also incorporates the visual language of handicraft into his work. His work in progress since 2003, “Quilt of the Dead”, is work that had expanded from a curiosity about obituaries found in newspapers to a community participatory embroidery project. He is currently working on a series of collages using thousands of
used postage stamps.
