Avoid buying new clothes by repairing them. Try out darning in esteemed textile artist Agy’s workshop, where she will teach you the basics and all the tips and tricks to get you started at home.
The workshop will take place in the Project Green showcase in the main atrium of Plaza Singapura. All materials and tools included. Participants should be familiar with using needle and thread. Suitable from age 12 years and up.
About Agy Textile Artist
Agy is a Singapore-based textile artist interested in the interactions between people and the natural environment, and how this relationship can be improved. She works with textiles, primarily by creating textile collages incorporating her observations through stitching (hand and free motion embroidery) and marking. Her current work looks at slowing down, and making the unseen visible to the community, enabling them to appreciate nature. She has an upcoming solo textiles art exhibition in June 2023.
About Renew Earth Sweat Shop
An on-going research, community and participatory art project by Post-Museum and Veronyka Lau, Renew Earth Sweatshop responds to the environmental impact and labour conditions linked to the global fashion industry. Renew Earth Sweatshop is an attempt to ‘reverse’ sweatshops – to become what a sweatshop is not, to counter waste, to rethink labour and ultimately to renew our earth. It’s multi-partner community upcycling pop-ups have been showcased at Gillman Barracks, Temasek Shophouse, Asian Civilisations Museum, City Sprouts, Jurong Lake Gardens, Orchard and Harbourfront public libraries and various malls. It’s third season from June 2022 to May 2023 is supported by SG Eco Fund.
