We are in a time that is marked by uncertainty and change. While we are socially distanced by necessity, we need to stay connected more than ever. Post-Museum’s Renew Earth Sweatshop wants to bring people together, remotely and in small groups, to continue to think about the world we want to re-emerge into.

Join our ‘sweatshop’ to create a wearable creation that tells of your story and your aspirations for a new world.

Through our UPCYCLING WORKSHOPS & OPEN WORKSPACES, pick up design, sewing and a variety of making skills to bring your creative fashion ideas to life. Journey with us in the coming months to a final wearable creation and join personalities from the fashion, green and art industries in Singapore in a fashion photo shoot and showcase later in the year.

In our upcoming Renew Earth Sweatshop workshops
on SUNDAY 19, 29 APRIL and 23 MAY 3 – 6pm
Participants will be given basic training on how to sew a tote bag or face mask from clean second-hand materials using the sewing machine (you can also bring your own unwanted materials). Together with a team of rotating trainers, we will also be on hand to guide you on design if you choose to continue on the journey to create a full wearable creation. Participation is free.

We want to keep you SAFE during these Covid-19 times and will be implementing distancing measures between participants at our workshops and open workspaces.

In two groups of six on each workshop day, you will experience the following
* Introduction to Renew Earth Sweatshop
* Receive a welcome package including a sweatshop punch card!
* Learn to use a sewing machine to sew a Totebag or Face Mask
* Be brought through the design process of a fashion outfit that tells your story – we will help you develop a concept, make a drawing and find your materials to start cutting and sewing.

Participants who have been through our workshops can then join us in our OPEN WORKSPACE at THE GREEN COLLECTIVE from 21 – 31 MAY to work on their outfits on the sewing machines. Watch out also for other dates in June and July!

We also plan to open the option for participants to join our sweatshop project remotely from the safety of your own home!

Post-Museum’s Renew Earth Sweatshop is a community and participatory art project reacting to the environmental impact and labour conditions linked to the global fashion industry. Renew Earth Sweatshop is an attempt to ‘reverse’ sweatshops – to become what a sweatshop is not, to counter waste, to rethink labour and ultimately to renew our earth. Through a creative learning experience, our sweatshop aims to transform our participants from a mere consumer to one with skills, with choice and power of a good story.
