This film is set in a devastated city of Hai Kou, the capital of Hainan Island in China in the aftermath of World War III. A few surviving humans use time travel in the hope to send someone back to before the war for food supplies and maybe a solution to their terrible life after the war. The man tasked with the mission of being a time traveler is haunted by his childhood memory and memory of a mysterious woman embarks on the journey of time, memory and place. Can he save the world and change the course of history?


Hai Kou is a film about time, memory, place and identity as the film-makers embark on a journey to their hometown in China and travels around South East Asia to make this film.


* The film is set in Hainanese language –  a dialect spoken on Hainan Island and inspired by the film 12 Monkeys.
