The recent week or so has thrown up\u00a0a few examples\u00a0which could be considered as such.<\/p>\n<p>1. MDA proposes amendments to the Public Entertainments and Meetings Act, including arts groups self-classifying their works\u00a0and more power to MDA. See our\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/postmuseum.wordpress.com\/2014\/05\/13\/call-proposed-amendments\/\" target=\"_blank\">previous post<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>2. Lee Wen was assaulted in Hong Kong\u00a0after\u00a0he criticised the detainment of Chen Guang after he staged a performance art work commemorating\u00a0the Tiananmen Massacre. [<a href=\"http:\/\/www.scmp.com\/news\/hong-kong\/article\/1515158\/singaporean-artist-lee-wen-says-he-was-attacked-hong-kong\" target=\"_blank\">News article<\/a>]<\/p>\n<p>3. PM Lee Hsien Loong sued blogger Roy Ngerng (The Heart Truths) for defamation over his article\u00a0which points out similarities between the City Harvest case and the CPF. Read his blog post about it\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/thehearttruths.com\/2014\/05\/19\/i-have-just-been-sued-by-the-singapore-prime-minister-lee-hsien-loong\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, these are neither new nor shocking. Benjamin Franklin said\u00a0this 300 years ago: \u201cWhoever would overthrow the liberty of a nation must begin by subduing the freeness of speech.\u201d Will we heed his warning and do something about this before\u00a0we have no freedom left?<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<span class=\"et_bloom_bottom_trigger\"><\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are many ways our\u00a0freedom of speech could be curtailed without outright censorship.
