who said sg got nothing to see and do?

With Megan Tee

Synopsis:
Many Singaporeans complain about the country’s size and boredom but often ignore the free activities, especially art-related ones, available to them. Instead of being what we Singaporeans say, “Complain King/Queens”, we should appreciate the quiet beauty in daily life. From sunlight brightening a dark corner to the laughter of children on a bus, these moments are often overlooked. We forget how privileged we are to wake up free, not confined, and to share simple joys like greeting colleagues or enjoying coffee breaks, even amidst routine burdens. Embracing these subtleties can help us find gratitude and contentment in our everyday lives.

This curation of exhibitions hopes to explore artistic responses to systems and hierarchies of knowledge. do you see me seeing you?

With Syakirah

Synopsis:
This tour questions the action and internalisation of ‘visibility’. In parsing through exhibitions about peripheral and/or socio technological experiences, we will dissect what it means to be visible to each other and ourselves. It asks: how do we make ourselves ‘visible’ amid various structures that flatten our everyday experiences? Why do we need to be visible? How do we ultimately see ourselves seeing each other? Conclusively, the tour explores the modes and tools that we use to represent ourselves in our current age, digging deeper into why artists and even audiences might be drawn to certain types of (re)presentations to make themselves visibly human.

What Makes a Map?

With Adlina Mohd Anis

Synopsis:
This tour brings participants through exhibitions intersecting themes of space, nature, order and the relationships built in/through these dimensions.

Beginning at one of the furthest and newest parts of Singapore, participants will be prompted to reflect on the significance of having or making space in the ‘little red dot’, with cartography as both companion and catalyst for questions. As we walk from exhibition to exhibition, participants will also be asked to chart sensations and thoughts that they think are significant enough to etch into tangible permanence in the form of their very own maps.

Each exhibition has been selected for its potential to pose questions on how the scarce spaces of Singapore are utilised and for whom, exemplifying the role that art plays in realising the ways in which our external surroundings become internalised, then expressed into artworks.
