We are proud to work with Cafédirect to distribute its fairtrade products to businesses and consumers in Singapore. We believe that free trade is not the ideal system and that fairtrade is a feasible way to make poverty history. We especially support Cafédirect, a company which only deals with 100% fairtrade products. Cafédirect producers get a guaranteed minimum price for their crops and half of profits from the sale of products are invested back into the farms and communities. By consuming Cafédirect's products, we not only get high-quality tasty drinks, we also directly help to improve the lives of millions of farmers and their communities. |

ABOUT FAIRTRADE | ||||||||||||||
From WIkipedia: - Fair trade is an organised social movement and market-based approach to empowering developing country producers and promoting sustainability. The movement advocates the payment of a fair price as well as social and environmental standards in areas related to the production of a wide variety of goods. - It focuses in particular on exports from developing countries to developed countries, most notably coffee, tea and cocoa. - In June 2008, it was estimated that over 7.5 million disadvantaged producers and their families were benefiting from fair trade funded infrastructure, technical assistance and community development projects. |

ABOUT Cafédirect | ||||||||||||||
From Cafediréct's website: - Cafédirect is the innovative result of Oxfam, Equal Exchange, Traidcraft, and Twin Trading’s decision to bypass the conventional market and buy coffee direct from disadvantaged growers in developing countries. - Cafédirect is a pioneer in ethical business – we began trading three years before the Fairtrade Foundation mark was first used in the UK and we were the first coffee brand to carry the mark. - In 2004, we successfully executed the UK’s biggest ethical public share issue to become a publicly listed company, raising £5 million from 4,500 investors. The opportunity enabled our grower partners, consumers, employees and founders to own a share in the company and to be directly connected to each other. - Today we work with 40 grower organisations across 14 developing countries, encompassing over 260,000 farmers and directly improving the lives of more than 1.2 million people. - Cafédirect is the winner of 8 Great Taste Awards in 2008. |
